Bassersdorf Comes Alive
Last Saturday, the village of Bassersdorf — just outside the city — became the beating heart of Zurich’s beach volleyball community. More than 100 players and spectators made their way to Beachhalle Zürich Nord for the inaugural tournament of Beachvolleyball Academy Zurich. That’s no small thing for a first edition, and it set the tone for everything that followed.

Sixty Games, Two Leagues
The competition was structured into two mixed leagues: Silver for players newer to the sport, and Gold for those who’ve been around the block, the best of them competing at A-Tour level. Sixty games across the day meant continuous action on the courts, with 64 players competing, resting, and cheering each other on in equal measure. Both leagues had something to prove — and both delivered.

The Village It Takes
No tournament runs on bracket sheets alone. Danoi kept the energy up with pizza. Daniele spent the entire day behind a lens, capturing moments that will outlast the scorecards. Silvia from Acticare made sure tight shoulders and tired legs were ready for the next match. And community members turned up with sandwiches, cake, and the kind of good vibes that no sponsor can provide.

Infrastructure That Enables Community
BVAZ and Beachhalle Zürich Nord proved something on Saturday: good infrastructure is a multiplier. The continuous effort of BVAZ and their sponsors — to make playing, cheering, and competing possible — only lands when there’s a venue that can hold it.
We’re looking forward to more events like this, in Zurich and beyond. The community is out there. It needs places to gather.

Congratulations to Ale and his team, to all competitors, and of course to the winners of the tournament!
